We designed a tabletop lamp with an adjustable shade to be used in hospitality settings, where a broad range of guests would want to change the lighting levels to their liking in order to make their temporary living space more comfortable and personalized. The lampshade, consisting of 5 petal-like flaps made of our wire-reinforced biomaterial, is fully poseable in order to accommodate for different user preferences and environments. The number of flaps allows for easier adjustment, and the possibility of having one side closed off with the other open. The flaps are slightly pigmented with turmeric, allowing a warm, diffused light to pass through. The lamp stand and bulb attachment are made from a combination of turned scrap wood and bent ½” steel rod, offering stability for when the lamp shade is adjusted. The LED bulb prevents overheating that would damage the bioplastic and decrease its performance.
